This series aired Jul 2007 - Sept 2007. I’m late in watching it!Really Late!So far I’ve seen 3 episodes.

Hotaru No Hikari (Glow of Fireflies) stars Ayase Haruka as Amemiya Hotaru, an OL who works for a super glamorous interior design company. She’s great at her job and seems on top of everything. She’s professional, efficient, and organized. So imagine my surprise when her house looks like this:

That’s right folks. She’s a complete mess at home. She hangs out at her house in sweats and jersey t-shirts drinking beer. She would rather lay around her house then go out with friends or go on dates like other woman her age. Her female co-workers describe this type of person as a himono-onna(dried fish woman). Not to mention to she talks to her cat! Of course no one knows that Hotaru acts this way at home.

Takano(Fujiki Naohito) is Hotaru’s manager. He recently separated from his wife and decides to move into his parents rental property. As he inspects the house he finds something sleeping under a pile of newspapers on the porch.

This turns out to be non-other then Hotaru! It turns out Hotaru is “borrowing” the house from Takano’s father while he’s out traveling. At first, Takano is apprehensive about living with Hotaru, since she is a woman and he is still married. But after observing her himono-onna ways, he informs her that since she is no longer a woman, just a dried up old maid, there is no problem with them living in the same house.

Back at work, the office is bustling with the news of a colleagues return from studying in London.(Why do people in Jdramas always travel to Europe?) Motoko(Kato Kazuki) has all the OL’s excited. Apparently he’s a hottie and Hotaru develops a crush on him.

As it turns out, Motoko likes Hotaru a lot. He knew her from before he left for London when he saw her getting yelled at by her boss and consoling herself with a can of beer on the roof. Motoko finds her sleeping in a chair and decides to wake her up with a kiss, which causes her to promptly run out the door. Hotaru is dumb in a cute way when it comes to love. She really doesn’t know how to act around a guy she likes. Anytime she gets a chance to speak to Motoko, she literally backs up slowly and runs away.

So far, I really like this drama. It’s refreshing to see a character like Hotaru and all her imperfections. I love all the weird words she makes up like “ITADAKIMAMBO!!” Takano is hilarious! I love the way he insults Hotaru like it’s not a big deal. All of their co-workers are pretty lively and entertaining characters. Like this guy:

Honestly, Motoko is the most boring character so far. He’s sweet and all but that’s it. I don’t see what the big deal is about him. Hopefully, Hotaru realizes Motoko’s a boring lame-o and falls for her manager instead! I’ll definitely finish watching this and see where it goes.I know this is based on a manga so I’ll probably check that out as well.
