So I was spending some quality time with a few friends earlier, and while keeping tabs on the election, one of them decided to put a DVD into the Xbox called ‘Dokuro Chan’. At first it appeared to simply be another kawaii stylized harem anime based on nothing save the sexual embarrassment of an easily victimized young boy with a seemingly absent sex drive, and I am thrilled to say I was very, very wrong. From the first five minutes, this show makes little to no sense, and does it extremely well. While not usually a fan of the simple, bishoujo animation style the show uses, it does work well with the atmosphere.
The plot follows a young man in junior high who is oddly named Sakura (yeah it confused the hell out of me too), who is endlessly and mercilessly stalked by an angel sent from the future to kill him, this is where it gets good. The sole reason that his death has been deemed necessary by whatever forces that may be is utterly enjoyable. While creating a form of immortality he somehow stunts the aging of every female in the world at the ripe year of twelve, subsequently creating a world rampant with pedophiles.
Of course the story wouldn’t be complete if the angel sent to kill him weren’t an emotionally attached, and rather unhinged, post pubescent twelve year old with homicidal tenancies. I would explain more but I really think you all should simply experience it for yourselves. It’s different, it’s weird as hell, it’s worth at least checking out. On a scale from one to ten, I would have to give it a solid nine simply due to the extreme WTF factor. It’s got plenty of fan service and more than enough hillarity to last the entire series.’Dokuro Chan’ officially gets an OK from me.
The hit tv show Heroes has been getting a lot of negative attention as of late and it seems with the recent flaming Entertainment Weekly did by publishing “how to fix Heroes” on their cover, NBC has been feeling the burn and looking for some aloe. The solution? Axe writers / producers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb.
NBC recently cut the producers due to creative frustration with the show’s current creative direction.
Season 3 was supposed to be the big come back Heroes needed after a not so well received season 2 garnered complaints from fans and the media. The writers strike was supposed to benefit the show by giving the writers & the production team more time to develop the show, but it seems something is still missing.
Could it be the ridiculous amount sub plots? Or maybe it is the 180 degree character developments. Or maybe it’s that nothing great has happened this season. Don’t get me wrong, I love heroes. I come home every Monday on time just to watch it. I have not missed an episode air since season 1. I even sit through the horrible excuse for a spy comedy, “Chuck” because nothing else is on. It’s just I really hate when I watch a show for a good while and it seems nothing is really accomplished on the show.
Lets just hope this decision by NBC is for the best and we all benefit from it. I would hate to see it come back and hit NBC in the face.
I am about to get another hit to my Nerd cred for this post.
Space Balls was a 1987 Star Wars parody that has earned a huge cult following, but I never really cared to much for it. I have watched it about 3-4 times and I still can’t appreciate it.
So I wasn’t enthusiastic by any means when I saw the preview for the animated series of Space Balls. There is one thing that caught my attention, and no it wasn’t the ridiculous amount of breast jokes they put in the preview. What caught my attention is that the show appears to be animated in Adobe Flash. I can’t confirm it, but I am good at spotting flash produced shows out, and I am 98% sure flash had a hand in this show.
Check it out.
The show will start running on G4 September 21st. Now although I am not looking forward to it by any means, it should fill up sometime time slots on G4 and hopefully eliminate more air time for the ninja shows they always have on, or Cops and Cheaters.
Heroes is only one week away ladies and gents! Woot! I am so excited. To long, has it been since I laid eyes on the the phenomenon that is Heroes.
I found this spoiler-ish video today of Masi Oka who plays Hiro Nakamura on the show, giving an interview and revealing some details about his character in the upcoming season. Check it out!
*warning, possible spoilers*

I don’t think Hiro will become a Darth Vader like character, probably just more pissy and upset like teenage Anakin. I guess we will have to wait and see!
I just finished watching the first episode of Fringe, Fox Network’s latest “masterpiece”, or so they would like to think. I have mixed feelings about the show, but more positive then negative. The overall direction of the show is appealing to me. A crazy out of touch scientist is freed temporarily from a mental hospital to assist a female FBI agent in solving out of this world mysteries along with the scientist’s son who must be present at all times around his father in order keep him out of the mental hospital.
Here are my thoughts.
Liked: The mystery behind the first episode gives hints and clues to an underground world where unexplained phenomenons occur. The phenomenons seems to be connected to other mysterious characters, many of which will probably be introduced in future episodes.
Mystery is a great key to getting viewers to come back for more.
Disliked: The characters, particularly the FBI agent and the scientist’s son. The FBI agent just makes stupid dramatic decisions, and yet at the same time we are expected to believe she is some kind of top grade agent that is always ahead of the game. It is like two different character types clashing and trying to find a happy medium, but it doesn’t work for me.
The scientist’s son is useless (so far). He seems to be the voice of reason in the show, but no one ever listens to him. He serves no real purpose in the show and I think the show would be better off with out trying to force an unnecessary character in. Focus more on the FBI agent and the father scientist, do away with the son.
Overall: The pilot kept me entertained so I will definitely keep watching, but I won’t make it a habit to clear my schedule for it, especially since it is available online at Hulu.com.

Has anyone seen this yet? I heard Microsoft was planning their own set of commercials to combat that Apple commercials that have been running for some time now. To bring some batting power to the plate, Microsoft decided to hire everyone’s favorite comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Sounds like a cool idea right? What could go wrong? Seinfeld has had a pretty good commercial track record so far.
Take a look at attempt 1.

Dare I ask “What the hell was that?” in fear of Microsoft sending it’s Balmer virus to my computer? Wait yes I do, because I am on my MacBook right now. Ha!
So yeah, it is interesting…but I really don’t see how this would make me want to buy Windows. If you know who Bill Gates is, and think this commercial is up your alley, then chances are you already use a PC running windows. Oh well, I am ready for the second serving now.
Once upon a time, back when Buffy the Vampire slayer was still awesome and we all didn’t mind the quirky teen drama it provided our zombie driven minds in place of decent killer vampire action, there was an animated pilot based on the Buffy TV show.
After almost 6 years, the pilot has been released online for public viewing and I have to say it looks like a WB Saturday morning cartoon that I might of watched back in third grade.

I openly give most cartoons a good chance to catch my heart, forgiving most of their obvious flaws, but this trailer or preview or pilot…whatever it is, it’s just horrific. The only thing it has going for it is the animation, which by today’s standards are nothing special. Apparently no TV network wanted to pick it up, and for once I have to commend them all for choosing to keep their dignity.
Was the TV show really this bad? The dialogue made me shake my head. Do you notice how even when she is jumping through the air, she still talks like she is standing around. No “HHEEEE YA!” or out of breathe one liners. Just jump around like a freaking ninja and throw taunts at a vampire with ease. I guess that is Buffy. Then out of no where a freaking dragon bust through the ceiling and and selectively picks Buffy to eat and fly away. Of course she then opens the dragon’s mouth 5 minutes later and proceeds to taunt it followed up by what I assume to be an overally effective punch. WHO PUNCHES A DRAGON?! NO ONE! I thought this was Buffy the Vampire slayer, not Reign of Fire.
My nerd rage is reaching asthma attack state, hold me back!
I recently had the chance to watch the online Heroes “webisodes”. 3 episodes are currently available for viewing. The episdoes so far revolve around a leading male character named Echo, who discovers he has the ability to manipulate sound waves during a run in the “The Company”
Check out the first episode.
For a webisode I would give it a “B-”. It is short, straight to the point, and does a bit of teasing. The production isn’t going to be as good as the show, as I am sure the cost to produce this web show is mere pocket change compared to the TV show. Still though, the lame “constrictor” guy doesn’t make me anxious to watch future installments. Echo himself, is a very bi-polar character. His emotions go from running scared, to horny, to cocky in 2 minutes. Thats a lit bit of an emotional stretch for just 2 minutes. My only other complaint is that “The Company’s” agents act more like villains then in the show. They attack Echo for no real reason. The agents in the show aren’t as hostile unless the situation calls for it.
Other then that, I would say check it out. When you compare it to most webisodes out there, it ranks up there with the best, but that ain’t saying much.
Oh, and also make sure you watch Episodes 3 to catch a cameo at the end.
